Island of Insanity 2020 – The Ultimate Cthulhu Gaming Retreat

ISLAND OF INSANITY 2019 was a huge success, even though the weather threw everything it could at us. For 2020 we’ve decided to move the bulk of the accommodation and gaming into one incredibly thematic property for more of the same…

Want to fly by helicopter to an island gaming retreat and enjoy a long weekend of Lovecraftian gaming in a Victorian mansion? Island of Insanity 2020 has limited places so register your interest now!

Along with Pirates, Vikings and Zombies, Cthulhu has become somewhat of a gaming staple in the past couple of decades. From the famous roleplaying game bearing his name, to numerous board, dice and card games, the tentacled one doesn’t seem set to return to his slumber any time soon.

To celebrate this, Tabletop Tribe run a gaming retreat each year the weekend closest to the anniversary of Lovecraft’s death!) on a remote island off the UK coast, for a long weekend of Lovecraftian-themed tabletop entertainment.

The lucky few will be flown by helicopter across 12 miles of ocean to reach the island destination, and this year will be accommodated in a sprawling Victorian mansion nestled in its own little valley, that could have stepped straight from the pages of any of Lovecraft’s novels.

Looking down from above Millcombe House to the landing quay – quite a climb with a bag of cameras and lenses!

The properties on the island are fully-equipped for self-catering, and there’s a surprisingly well-stocked shop of provisions. But you can also eat (and drink!) at the only tavern, surrounded by the relics of ships wrecked on the unforgiving rocks of the island’s coast.

The mansion will has two immense tables that can comfortably seat a dozen each, where we’ll be running Lovecraftian games (or ones in all but name) every day, well into the evening, including (but not limited to!):

There’s also a snug and cosy living room for overflow, and where we intend to run a Call of Cthulhu RPG one or both nights of the weekend.

When not gaming there’s a whole island to explore, featuring three lighthouses, a 12th century castle, a smuggler’s cave, a cannon/rocket battery, the 370ft deep blow-hole (The Devil’s Limekiln!), a disused 19th century granite quarry and even the ominous Earthquake Zone, where the island’s rocks have been split asunder into huge fissures by… who knows what eldritch forces?

So even beyond the thematic accommodation, the whole island could literally have leapt straight from the pages of a Lovecraft (or possibly Ramsey Campbell) story!

MOST OF LAST YEAR’S ATTENDEES HAVE ALREADY RESERVED PLACES FOR THIS YEAR (THEY ALWAYS GET A CHANCE TO PRE-BOOK BEFORE TICKETS OFFICIALLY GO ON SALE), SO 2020 PLACES ARE EVEN MORE LIMITED THAN 2019.

If you’ve missed out on tickets for this year, or don’t fancy the Cthulhu theme, then register your interest below for next year’s even, or other less Lovecraftian events we plan on running.
